Pinto horses, or paint horses, have been a symbol of the wild west for over a century. Paintings of them exist in almost every museum collection, especially those who have American Indian exhibits. These horses were, and still are, seen at many horse shows each year, often competing in trail and barrel racing competitions.
The pinto horse has unique color patterns which are either a reddish brown or black combined with white. The colored patches are large and may occur anywhere on the horses body. Some pinto horses also have one or two blue eyes, giving them a unique appearance. Sometimes these horses are referred to as piebalds.
