I've been enjoying my little worm farm that I keep in the basement. It is an interesting way to create compost year 'round if you have room in the house. It is a project that everyone in the family can be part of. You can even train your worms to leave their castings and older compost so that they can start "work" on newer compost. Unfortunately, you can't train them to sit up and beg! (If you can, drop me a line as I'd love to hear how you did it!).
